Our Mission
The koala is a beloved Australian icon
It is native to Australia and is not found anywhere else in the world. Sadly, it is the last surviving member of the Phascolarctidae family and needs our protection. Estimates suggest that if we do not act swiftly, the koala may be extinct in south-east Queensland and northern News South Wales by 2050
We can stop this from happening. But, we must act now! Hence, our mission at KRFA is driven by this singular, urgent purpose:
To establish a program that safeguards the future of the koala species across south-east QLD, northern NSW, and ultimately, our entire nation
We’re actively working to turn the tide against animal extinction in Australia by partnering with groundbreaking researchers and vaccination programs to eradicate chlamydia in koalas in the wild. This also includes implementing smart breeding and release programs, to increase koala numbers in the wild, and leading collaborative studies to deepen our understanding of koala diseases. Our focus is on ensuring healthy koalas can reproduce and thrive for generations to come, and we’re committed to standardising, scaling, and sharing our successes nationally to support and benefit koala populations across the country. Ultimately creating a lasting legacy of survival for our iconic species
