koala extinction across QLD & NSW
Who we are
Chlamydia is a silent killer in koala populations, and without urgent action, local extinction is a stark reality for endangered animals in Australia. We are deeply committed to koala conservation. Our researchers are dedicated to understanding and combating the unique disease profile in southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales, to implement and scale successful methods that preserve and enhance koala populations nationwide
Our impact
The Koala Research Foundation Australia (KRFA) is at the forefront of the battle to save our beloved Australian koalas. We partner with world-leading researchers focusing on a groundbreaking research, including the koala chlamydial vaccine program. Along with the captive breeding and strategic release of wild koalas, we are tackling the devastating impact of koala population collapse head-on and contributing to saving endangered species in Australia

Let's Talk Koalas
Witness the real-world impact of our work. From successful vaccination trials in the Elanora population, where over 300 koalas have been captured and vaccinated, to the birth of 19 healthy, chlamydia-free joeys from our tracked females, our research is translating into tangible hope for koala survival
What We Do
Our purpose is clear: to secure the future of wild koala populations in southeast Queensland, northern New South Wales, and ultimately, across Australia. We achieve this through:

Partnering with research and vaccine programs to eradicate koala bear chlamydial disease

Implement captive breeding and release programs to increase wild koala numbers

Lead collaborative studies to understand and combat koala diseases

Ensure healthy koalas can reproduce and thrive for years to come

Standardise, scale & disseminate successful vaccination strategies nationally

Prevent koala extinction across Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales
